Maureen Kelliher
Engineering Ambassadors Outreach Coordinator
My journey to the Leonhard Center:
I began at the Leonhard Center in November of 2022 in the role of Engineering Ambassador’s Outreach Coordinator. My interests have always involved STEM, starting with undergraduate degrees from North Carolina State University in Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry. After working in industry for years, I decided to pivot and follow a passion for education by earning a master’s in teaching - secondary science at Monmouth University (NJ). Teaching science to high school students was fulfilling and always interesting. Although I took a break from teaching, I found that I continued to be involved in science groups targeting youth, including mentoring students and managing science competition groups. My current position Engineering Ambassadors Outreach Coordinator allows me to organize events and activities that give K-12 students an opportunity to learn about the possibilities of engineering and gives our Penn State undergraduate students an opportunity to experience how their community involvement generates curiosity of science in younger learners.
Maureen is passionate about:
- Introducing K-12 students to engineering
- Engaging all types of learners
- Project-based learning
- Volleyball
